What is this event?

The IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition is a high-profile international event organised by the International Water Association in a different city of the world each time it is held. The biennial event before Montreal 2010 is Vienna in 2008. Previous events were Beijing 2006, Marrakech 2004, Melbourne 2002, Berlin 2001 and Paris 2000.

Who will attend?

IWA expects 3,000 delegates to attend the World Water Congress in Montreal. Many will be drawn from the IWA membership comprising 10,000 individual and over 400 corporate members from 130 different countries. In particular, the Association expects strong attendance from Canada, the United States and Latin America. Association members span the continuum between research and practice and cover all facets of the water cycle, from the science and management of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater to the conservation of water resources throughout the world.

What will be discussed?

The scientific and technical programme will cover water treatment, wastewater treatment, design and operation of water systems, managing and planning water services, health and the environment and the political importance of water rights.

How can we be involved?

There are four main ways of being involved.

Delegates

Individuals can improve their store of knowledge on the latest global water industry science, technology and strategic issues as congress delegates. Those individuals' organisations will benefit from their attendance and the knowledge that they gain.

Presenters

Delegates can enhance their involvement and achieve a higher profile at the event by presenting a paper in the technical programme. As well as the prominence this will achieve on the day, the paper will be published on a CD-Rom of proceedings and may be selected for publication in one of three IWA publications.

Exhibitors

Exhibitors will have a chance to market their products and services over four days to 3,000 decision-makers from a wide range of disciplines. Exhibitors will include utilities, technology and product manufacturers, consultants, knowledge and research institutes, non-government organisations and the media.

Online registration for the IWA World Water Congress and Exhibition in Montréal is open from 1 April. 
 
If you are planning to join IWA in Montréal, please make your arrangements early. A Canadian visa can take up to six weeks and, with 4,500 people from around the world expected to converge on Montréal, the accommodation is likely to fill up fast.
